The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Baseball Tournament had its curtain rolled down tonight in Beijing as top seed Japan secured its predominance of the sport after beating China 5-2 in the final.
Despite sending a line-up minus several starters, Japan still showcased the strength of a world top team, especially the ability to rally from two points behind to win the gold.
China, who also had a few key players on the DNP list, did well in the tournament, earning easy wins over France and Czech in the process plus three homers. The loss in the final was due to the big gap between the two franchises.
In the final today, China opened scoring but the Japanese took over the match later as four of their pitchers contributed eleven 3-strikes. China only had five but was hit nine times by Japan.
Despite China's pitchers having lagged far behind the world elites in both team plays and individual skills, the players are striving hard to make progress.
France and Czech are not competitive among the European powerhouses. After both losing to the Asian teams, France defeated Czech to settle for third of the tournament.
The bottom two took this event as their warm-up for the upcoming European Championship. |
